Foundation given boost thanks to funds raised from charity golf day

A team of golfers have raised £14,000 in aid of the Foundation through a charitable golf day held at Northamptonshire County Golf Club, sponsored by Hawthorns Northampton Retirement Village.

The organising committee, chaired by Colin Miles went to great lengths to ensure no stone was unturned which was credit to the event’s success.

Under sunny skies, 26 teams embarked on their rounds with a shot gun start enjoying ice creams and refreshments along the way, with each tee supported by a different sponsor. However, the competition was fierce, featuring challenges such as longest drive, beat the pro and an overall winning team to compete for.

Luck was on their side concluding their rounds just before the thunderstorm, as they took shelter in the clubhouse for a two-course evening meal. During this time the winners were announced, and a raffle was conducted by Northampton Saints Prop, Ethan Waller.

To cap off the formal proceedings and fundraising efforts, the teams were entertained with a performance from a stand-up comedian, Ian Irvine.

The funds raised from the golf day go towards helping the Foundation to create positive futures for young people through its programmes such as the Engage programme, which is designed to provide crucial support for individuals who may be disengaged from the traditional education system.  The programme provides a diverse range of activities focused on physical, social, and emotional development. These experiences are carefully crafted to facilitate healing, personal growth, enjoyment, and the creation of positive everyday memories.

Reflecting on the golf day Colin Miles Chairman Organising Committee said “We decided this year to raise funds for Northampton Saints Foundation which helps young people in Northampton, Corby, Milton Keynes and Ipswich. We are delighted Hawthorns Northampton Retirement Village stepped in to be our headline sponsor and resulted in a record day with 26 teams competing at the Northamptonshire County Golf Club and raising just over £14,000 for the Foundation. We have had fantastic feedback from those who attended asking already to be included in the event in 2024”.

Catherine Deans, Managing Director at Northampton Saints Foundation expressed her appreciation saying “We extend our immense gratitude to the teams and sponsors who took part, as their hard work not only ensured a fantastic day for all participating golfers but also resulted in an incredible amount raised for the Foundation”.
