Head of HR, Learning and Development

BACKGROUND

Northampton Saints Foundation was established in 2018 and is the charitable arm of Northampton Saints Rugby Club. With successful programmes in the Education and Inclusion areas and responsible for the research and recording of the Club’s rich history and heritage the Foundation has a clear vision to use the values of rugby and the power of sport to INSPIRE, SUPPORT and EDUCATE young people and their communities, creating positive futures. 

ROLE

We have experienced significant growth in our team in recent years and now require an experienced Human Resource Manager, with a Learning and Development focus to have overall responsibility for our organisations people strategy. Reporting to the Managing Director this role includes full management of the HR requirement and the development of a comprehensive and effective internal training academy that will ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements and focus on the professional development of our leaders and managers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Human Resources

• Develop organisational plan for all HR matters including compensation, benefits, EDI, safeguarding, training, and staff engagement.
• Lead on the recruitment of all staff into the organisation including evaluating job description/specifications, assessing, and interviewing candidates, delivering initial phases of induction.
• Supporting with monthly payroll for all Foundation staff
• Support delivery of constructive 121’s, personal development planning and performance review ensuring implementation of the people strategy.
• Be the point of contact for all employee relations.
• Support with carrying out disciplinary and grievance processes when required.
• Understand the latest HR technologies and training software capabilities, making appropriate recommendations for the organisation.
• Maintain and develop policies, processes, and documentation in line with organisation need, which are regularly reviewed and updated.
• Support internal team building activity planning.
• Line management of members of leadership team in key roles.

2) Learning and Development
• Identify training and development needs of all the departments within the company, creating a comprehensive, organisation wide training academy that supports the organisation’s culture and strategic aims.
• Work with department managers to develop internal training programmes to support strong people management and ensure they deliver results.
• Develop comprehensive induction package, mandatory and non-mandatory training packages and oversee the tracking of and training program completion for all staff from entry level to senior management.
• Ensure that the planned training programs stay within budget.
• Track and assess the progress of staff undergoing training and provide reports to the senior management.
• Oversee training administration, making sure that policies and procedures are followed, and appropriate records are kept.

KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCES AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, or a relevant field
• CIPD Level 5 Diploma in Learning & Development or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience as an HR Training and Development Officer or a similar role
• 2+ years of people management experience
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong research, organisational, and planning skills
• Proficiency in MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
• Knowledge of BreatheHR is advantageous.
• Proven high level communication and presentation skills, with the ability to create an inclusive learning environment for people in a range of specialisms and from different backgrounds.
• Demonstrable ability to develop innovative solutions or approaches and implement these successfully. • Solutions focused, ability to analyse and decision-making capability.
• Excellent planning and organising skills, with the ability to prioritise, allocate resources, monitor and report on progress.
• Previous experience as a line manager and budget manager would be an advantage.

A full, clean driving licence is essential, as is an existing minibus driving qualification, or an openness to secure one.
