‘Playing for Success’ presentation evening sees local schools meet Saints

Northampton Saints players Piers Francis and James Fish were on hand to present the awards at the Foundation’s termly presentation evening for the ‘Playing for Success’ programme.

Held in the Rodber Suite at Franklin’s Gardens, over 350 parents, carers, pupils and teachers from six participating schools attended the awards ceremony to celebrate the students’ achievements.

The children were presented with a certificate of achievement, a Saints medal and a t-shirt as a reward for attending 20 hours of extra learning after school, and got the opportunity to meet Saints first-teamers Francis and Fish – as well as Club mascot Bernie the dog!

Pupils from St Andrews, Millway, Delapre, Weston Favell, Standen's Barn and Roade primary schools had been attending classes within the Foundation Centre for one night a week for seven weeks, with a wide range of curriculum activities including:

  • Name-badge making (ICT)
  • Origami sports kit design
  • A stadium tour with questionnaire
  • Meeting and interviewing a Saints player
  • African drumming
  • Archery
  • Fencing
  • Circus skills
  • Science workshop
  • Drama workshop on the life of Edgar Mobbs
  • Learning the Haka
  • Tag Rugby session with Saints community coaches

Foundation Centre manager Pete Austen said: “A great evening was had by all, and the children left with big smiles on their faces.

“Many thanks to Piers, James and of course Bernie for their attendance and for signing countless t-shirts and certificates – great job!”
