Foundation hosts innovative CV and interview workshops

Northampton Saints Foundation has taken another huge stride towards getting more young people into employment than ever before.

Doug Ferguson and Mel Haywood, two Saints season ticket holders, both offered their services to the Foundation as volunteers and delivered a bespoke CV writing and interview skills course to HITZ programme participants.

“This was hands down the most rewarding and motivational programme we have ever put on.”

Jordan Letts, social inclusion manager

That culminated in a simulated business interview session with several local partners and business leaders arriving at Franklin’s Gardens to put the students to the test.

The MPA Group, Portman Asset Finance, Greencore, Bearward, and The Roastery all sent representatives along to deliver mock interviews alongside Foundation trustees and Saints fullback Harry Mallinder.

And following a breakthrough afternoon where the HITZ students blew their interviewers away with their new-found skills, Jordan Letts – social inclusion manager at Northampton Saints Foundation – is hoping to recreate the event annually with the support of Doug and Mel.

“We know how important it is to inspire these young people to identify and target possible career progressions after they have finished our HITZ programme,” said Letts.

“This was hands down the most rewarding and motivational programme we have ever put on; it has been incredible to see how far the students have developed over the duration of the course.

“I am really looking forward to the Foundation growing our partnership with Doug and Mel and assisting more young people into employment than ever before – we have a target of getting at least 20 students into full-time employment year on year.”

Doug Ferguson said: “Without a doubt this was the most humbling and moving experience of my professional life.”

“I look forward to working with even more HITZ programme students in future and trying to make a difference for them,” added Mel Haywood.
