HITZ youngsters go off-roading with Land Rover

Northampton Saints’ HITZ participants rounded off a fantastic six-week employability programme with a day of off-road driving at Eastnor’s Land Rover Experience centre.

Alongside members of the Wasps, Worcester Warriors, and Leicester Tigers programmes, Saints’ HITZ youngsters enjoyed team-building exercises before negotiating the Worcestershire countryside in some of Land Rover's latest vehicles with the help of expert Land Rover drivers.

This was the culmination of six weeks of hard work and progress for the HITZ participants, with 57 Jaguar Land Rover employees volunteering to mentor them in that time.

"Growing skills like CV writing and interview techniques is invaluable for our group, and then reward days like this show HITZ participants that their hard work is all worthwhile."

Jordan Letts, Social Inclusion Manager

The youngsters were guided through modules of team building, CV writing, interview techniques and mock interviews – and Jaguar Land Rover’s employees were on hand at Eastnor to watch and celebrate the participants’ achievements.

HITZ is a national programme, which uses sport and the power of rugby to motivate youngsters aged between 14-19 to return to education, vocational training, and employment.

Land Rover is a key partner of HITZ and has supported the programme since its inception in 2011. During this time Land Rover has helped to develop resilience, self-reliance, and confidence in more than 14,600 young people.

“This driving experience day really was the cherry on top of a fantastic six weeks for our HITZ participants with Jaguar Land Rover,” said Jordan Letts, Saints Foundation’s social inclusion manager.

“Of course they had an amazing time driving these impressive vehicles around the stunning countryside – but it is the skills they have picked up and the lessons that they have learned over the last six weeks that they can carry with them on their way into employment.

“I want to thank Jaguar Land Rover for their support; growing skills like CV writing and interview techniques is invaluable for our group, and then reward days like this show HITZ participants that their hard work is all worthwhile.”
