Scrum-half Tom James joins Foundation as programme ambassador

Northampton Saints’ scrum-half, Tom James, has joined Northampton Saints Foundation as Programme Ambassador.

This announcement comes as a testament to Tom’s commitment to the community and his dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Known for his talented skills on the rugby field, Tom has extended his support beyond the pitch by actively participating in the Saints Inside programme. This initiative, focuses on preventing reoffending upon release from prison, operates within HMP Highpoint and HMP Five Wells.

The Saints Inside programme aims to provide prisoners with an opportunity to gain a recognised personal trainer qualification, as well as valuable employability skills. Tom, drawing on his professional sportsman’s knowledge of training, nutrition, attitude, and application, plays a pivotal role in inspiring programme participants. His influence motivates the individuals involved to believe in themselves and commit to completing the course while continuing to apply its principles once they re-enter society.

Tom expressed his enthusiasm about becoming a programme ambassador, saying: “I’ve really enjoyed getting involved with the Foundation and being a part of the Saints Inside programme. I’ve always thought it’s so important to try and give back to a community which is so supportive of Saints.

“It’s been great to see prisoners getting the opportunity to direct their energy and efforts into something so positive. I’ve found it really rewarding being able to offer insight to these guys on how we train as professional athletes at Saints.”

With Tom's involvement, the Saints Inside programme continues to thrive, enabling individuals to rebuild their lives, gain confidence, and develop valuable skills that will aid their reintegration into society. Northampton Saints Foundation look forward to the positive impact Tom’s role as a Player Ambassador continues bring to the programme and the lives it touches.
