Northampton Saints Foundation is teaming up with Legend Expeditions, owned by long-term supporter and Foundation Champion Jack Fleckney, to deliver a premium, purpose-driven expedition to the summit of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro in September 2026.
The eight-day challenge, scheduled from 14th-23rd September, will take participants along the renowned Lemosho Route, celebrated for its diverse landscapes and strong acclimatisation profile. At 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro stands as one of the world’s most iconic physical and mental endurance tests, offering breath-taking scenery from lush rainforest to glacial peaks before culminating in a sunrise summit at Uhuru Peak, the “Roof of Africa.”
The expedition will be offering a fully supported luxury experience designed to maximise comfort, enjoyment, and success. Climbers will benefit from high-end mountain accommodation, including stand-up tents, comfortable cot beds, thick mattresses, private toilets, and hot showers. A dedicated chef team will prepare fresh, nutritious meals daily to ensure participants remain energised throughout the journey.
At the heart of the Kilimanjaro 2026 expedition is its community impact. Each climber will raise vital funds for Northampton Saints Foundation, supporting education, employability, and social inclusion programmes, alongside specialist services designed to empower people and open pathways to training and employment.
Founded in 1880 by Reverend Samuel Wathen Wigg as a way to support troubled youth through rugby, Northampton Saints’ historic mission continues today through the Foundation. With it’s vision to empower young minds and enrich lives across generations, the charity delivers a range of programmes, helping thousands build confidence, develop essential life skills, and unlock new pathways into training and employment.
In addition to raising funds, the Kilimanjaro challenge will strengthen links with the local community. Legend Expeditions currently works with and supports Children of Kilimanjaro Orphanage situated at the base of the mountain. Plans are underway to visit during the expedition, with participants hoping to take practical supplies, such as pens, books, and sports equipment, as a joint gesture of support.
Jack Fleckney, Founder & Managing Director of Legend Expeditions, who will be leading the exhibition added “Being able to bring together the Foundation I’ve backed for so many years with the business we’ve built in Tanzania is something I’m genuinely excited about. Kilimanjaro grabbed hold of my heart the first time I stepped onto its slopes, and I’m excited to share that feeling with people from Northamptonshire as we form a team and go after the roof of Africa for an incredible cause. Twende (let’s go)!
