SUWS to take on the Three Peaks in support of Saints Foundation

Nine plucky Saints supporters will this weekend scale the UK’s three highest peaks with the aim of raising over £3,000 for the Saints Foundation and Movember Foundation.

After coming together at Franklin’s Gardens last year with the aim of changing their lives for the better through the Move Like A Pro programme, the group has continued their mission to live healthier lives via the Shape Up With Saints (SUWS) fitness sessions.

But now they are taking on their toughest test yet; with Snowdon (3,560ft), Ben Nevis (4,409ft) and Scafell Pike (3,209ft) standing in their way on Saturday.

“Saints Foundation do amazing work to help young people by offering them different life chances, new opportunities and engaging with the community – so it’s our pleasure to share all the money we raise.”

The National Three Peaks Challenge will involve driving between the mountains and attempting to scale over 10,000ft of vertical climbing all within a 24-hour period.

Simon Day, Tim Brennan, Jim Duberry, Scott Bredda, Michael Mitchell, Richard Nugent, Laetitia Kinch, Daniel Taylor, and Jon Riley are the nine supporters taking up the torch for the trek – and Day is relishing the prospect of seeing all their hard work lead healthier lives come to fruition.

“Last year we all made a commitment to exercise more, think about what we eat, and be more mindful,” he said.

“Now 18 months on, we’re really excited to continue the journey by attempting the Three Peaks Challenge.

“We wanted to support the Movember Foundation as it was their sponsorship of the Move Like A Pro initiative which brought us together in the first place, before the patient coaching and mentoring from Northampton Saints which helped us make better choices.

“It was the 12-weeks of talks, weigh-ins and man chat that helped us reach our targets, and as well as noticing physical changes, the improvements in our mental wellbeing are more difficult to see but have been significant to us all.

“Northampton Saints Foundation do amazing work to help young people by offering them different life chances, new opportunities and engaging with the community – so it’s our pleasure to share all the money we raise with both charities.

“We all still work out together in the Shape Up With Saints classes; maybe next year we can take on Cobus Reinach’s sprint time but for now the Three Peaks Challenge will be an ambitious and exhilarating test.”
